The High Priestess
Inspiration
Over the years I have been passively taking an interest in tarot reading. I have learned that, for the majority of people, it is less about precise future telling and more about using the cards to help clarify their own insights. How, when, and where those insights are used is up to the reader and receiver.
Lately, I’ve been drawn to the High Priestess card. She represents, among other things, intuition and the balance of duality. This resonates with me as a new mom because I often find myself wondering some of the same things I did as a young artist… Am I even doing this right? When does this get easier?
Rough Sketch
When I consider the 10+ years I’ve dedicated to teaching myself different skills,
utilizing different mediums, and techniques - succeeding and failing over and over again,
I am reminded that it took practice, patience, and more than a bit of failure to trust in my own artistic instincts.
The Plan
A lot of my more meaningful paintings focus on seeing both the negative and positive sides of self as valuable. I hope that this piece inspires you, the viewer, to utilize past experiences, both good and bad - dark and light, to gain clearer insight, trust, and confidence in your present choices. I hope those choices lead you to the possibilities of a more balanced future.
For this project, I was selected to showcase my work along side 3 more local artists as a part of
Tempe Center for the Arts’ Fall/Winter - ‘Moments, Memory, & Time’ Satellite Exhibition.
So, I quickly got busy transforming this digital illustration into a 3-dimentional art installation.
